Riedel wine glasses

When it comes to crystal wine glasses, Riedel is a name that most people will have heard of.

The Riedel brand is synonymous with high-end crystal wine glasses, but it is the concept of grape-specific glasses that Riedel is perhaps most famous for. Designing wine glasses specifically for different grapes, in order to fully exploit their characteristic flavours and aromas, is something that was first conceived by Claus J Riedel in 1973. Since then the Riedel wine glass range has grown to include glasses for almost every type of wine on the market, whether it be Shiraz, Chardonnay, Merlot or Riesling.

By precisely controlling the shape of the bowl, the wine can be directed to different areas of the tongue depending on the levels of tannin, acidity, fruit and alcohol present. In addition to this, the size of the bowl and the diameter of the lip determine the aroma of the wine by allowing a certain amount of air to come into contact with the wine.
